The tales that really matter.
How we assembled the definitive anthology of human resilience.
“Charles expertise in storytelling transformed my book ‘Endurance’ and brought these timeless tales to life, contributing to the book’s ultimate success.”
Assembling endurance
When Apollo Publishers approached perhaps the world’s greatest living explorer Levison Wood to create an anthology of human resilience, Lev jumped at the opportunity. While he was used to writing autobiographical books about his own travels, he had long harbored a love for the history of exploration and discovery, and its many colorful figures.
Lev approached me to help him research and assemble this compendium, and what emerged from that herculean task was Endurance, a collection of 100 of the most heartbreaking, hair-raising stories of human resilience ever assembled.
The book includes extracts about and by Ernest Shackleton, Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Amelia Earhart, Marie Colvin, Solomon Northrup, Freya Stark, Nelson Mandela, Jules Verne, Neil Armstrong and Scott Kelly.
